Hello everyone,
Well, we have had a nice "small" break since Jose completed the Vineman this past August. What an experience that was. Awesome! He has continued to train, but has now really picked up the pace again. September 1st was the starting date to really get back at it and he has stuck to the program. He still seems to amaze me. Jose will be participating in the Long Beach Marathon, which is this upcoming October. There he will be trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon. The plan was originally to qualify for Boston through the Sacramento Marathon, but Long Beach is closer to home, so we went for that one. It is a tougher course, from what I understand, so hopefully he'll do okay. I hope we made the right decision. He must run this Marathon within 3 hours and 15 minutes. His last Marathon he ran in 3 hours 21 minutes, so he was very close there. I know he can do a Marathon within this time required, because he has learned and is utilizing some different techniques to where he can increase his running speed. Training is key of course. His pace is currently faster than the pace he had when preparing for the Rock and Roll Marathon, so I am hopeful. But, like with anything and any event, you don't know untill you get there and untill you see how you feel in the first couple of miles, how you will really perform on that particular day. But, again, I am hopeful. I would love to see him run Boston. Another dream of his that would be fulfilled. It would be another awesome moment in time :0) We will see and keep you posted how he does in Long Beach.
The next Boston Marathon will be held in April next year, the same month as the Arizona Ironman, so I don't know how we are going to do all of that, and if he will even compete in both events in the same month, if he qualifies for Boston. I think I am going to have to look for sponsors just to get me and the kids to these events to support him. Hahahahahaha....But we will see first if he can qualify and then take on that issue. I doubt he will want to wait untill 2009 to do Boston, because he is already signed up for the Arizona Ironman and I'm also not sure how this will affect his performance in Arizona etc. But he has never seized to amaze me with his capabilities, so I am not going to underestimate him. I will wait to see and whatever decision he makes, I will support it completely.
You know, I kind of noticed after Vineman that I was a bit "down" from all of the excitement leading up to it, I had no event to look forward to that would be coming up anytime soon. Even though it totally wore me out. His training schedule etc, the early mornings, diet meal plans etc etc....but when I found out he was doing Long Beach in October, I got excited thinking yeah, another moment to look forward to. Isn't that kind of funny? I think I am a bit addicted to these events even though I am not participating. Hahahahaha.... Oh well.
Well, I hope everyone is well and staying healthy. I am going to do another Half Marathon in November (that is the plan anyway) and we'll be in touch. Thanks for visiting our blog site. Greetings from HOT San Diego (it has been over 100 degrees in Escondido the past few days) Yikes!!
