Today Jose had the opportunity to train with Mark Ford. Mark is Jose's co-worker and has been kind of a mentor for Jose ever since he has embarked on this "mission" to participate in an Ironman. He has been a great inspiration for Jose and has given him wonderful support.
Jose met Mark at 6:30am in Solana Beach. They went for a swim in the ocean. It was nice for Jose to receive some additional tips from Mark on his swimming technique. Afterwards they ran 5 miles and discussed any questions Jose had regarding Vineman, his first full Triathlon race. Mark was able to give Jose some great tips regarding the race, the transition etc. Overall it was very helpful and we thank him again for his time :0)
Even though Jose will most likely not make many improvements on his speed between now and the race, it is so awesome to see how Jose is so dedicated to perfect everything. He is really into it and I like seeing it. Even though I really miss him when he is not here. But, I cannot be selfish. I have to keep supporting him because he has worked so very hard to get to this point.
Jose has now lost a total of 44 pounds. His weight has dropped to 166 pounds. During the half ironman his weight was 190. He is in the best shape of his life. He feels great and is ready for the race. I am ready to see him at the finish line! I am going to be a nervous reck. Already am! Hopefully this past 1.5 year of training will pay off. And then, what after Vineman? Well, it is off to Ironman Arizona in April 2008. Who would have ever thought? It is wonderful! Good training to everyone who will be going to Santa Rosa in a few weeks as well. For other, greetings from us from Sunny San Diego!
