Arizona Ironman: November 23, 2008

What? You don't think I can take these guys? Because I'm 39 years old and they're barely 20? Hihihihi.... Just kidding. Jose loves his team and has really enjoyed running for Palomar :0)
Jose is in great shape this year! Fastest mile so far: 5:19

Hello everyone,

Well, the time has almost arrived and November 20th we will be heading to Tempe, Arizona so we can watch Jose compete in the Ironman Arizona. We are very excited and feel very good about this race. Jose has been training well and I think he is in the best shape ever. Running cross country for Palomar has definitely helped with speed and I believe during his last race this past Friday he ran mid 5 minute miles, which is pretty good considering the fact that the terrain he runs on during these races is sandy, grassy etc...you know...cross country..hahahaha....He has dropped the weight needed, so he can increase his speed a bit and hopes to finish this race faster than the Vineman in August 2007, which he completed in 11 hours and 40 minutes. I have made him promise just to finish safely. No crazy stuff please. The bike is going in for a full tune-up today so we can make sure it is ready to go. There will be a few more trial runs on it when we get it back, but nothing huge before the race. He'll start to taper already soon. Usually 2 weeks before the race. This year he is riding a black cervelo bike. I had his yellow one painted black earlier this year and upgraded a bit. It looks great. Thanks to his friends Cesar and Jimmy for helping out with this task :0)
I think Jose is getting pretty excited about the race already. We will be staying at a hotel this year. It is the Four Points by Sheraton and is located close to the finish/start of the race (less than a mile distance) near Mill Avenue. This is great for me since I will be walking all over that day with the boys. We'll arrive on Thursday evening. Friday the kids might do the 1 mile kids run with me and then Saturday Jose gets to practice the swim in Tempe Lake, which will be nice. Sunday is the race, so we'll be up bright and early :0)
