3 Days Before Departure And Suddenly NO Accommodations!!!

Hello friends and family,
It is Tuesday evening and I have had an "eventful" day to say the least. This morning I checked my e-mail as I do every morning and to my disbelief I had received an e-mail that said: "Cancellation Vacation Rental". At first I thought it was "spam" mail and was going to delete it, but it is a good thing I didn't. The owner of the vacation rental informed me that he had significant water damage in the home we had rented for our stay in Boston (we reserved it back in early december 2007) and that he unfortunately was not going to be able to assist us with accommodations. What? Oh no!! 3 days before we leave for Boston and I have no place to stay!!?? I knew that it was going to be extremely hard to try to secure something at this point because when I made our reservations last year in December, the best thing I could find was far outside the city. I was sweating bullets and getting very anxious. So, it was back to the "drawing board". I called so many places and of course every person said they had been sold out for months. All hotels, vacation rentals...I was running out of luck. Untill one kind gentleman called me back and let me know that a friend of his had a beach rental available. It was just 20 miles further south of where we originally already were going to be staying, but heh, at this point, we just need something...right? A very nice man and I took down the information. He also mentioned during our conversation for me to check Craigslist. Well, I really didn't think I could find something on there. Plus, would it provide photos etc. I am totally NOT familiar with th Boston area, so I would have to do a lot of research to make sure I wasn't putting myself in a "funny" neighborhood. But after striking out on the vacation rental websites, I decided to take a look on Craigslist anyway. What the heck? And to my amazement there was one (1) ad mentioning a wonderful 2 bedroom apartment in the heart of Boston for the same week we were going to be there. The owner was going on vacation and was interested in renting her place out. Possibly to Marathoners etc. The best part was that the ad read: Minutes from the Finish Line of the Boston Marathon. Oh my gosh, I thought. This is too good to be true. I immediately e-mailed the owner explaining our situation and said I was hoping for a miracle. Fortunately she phoned me back pretty quickly and we soon agreed to rent her place. It is just perfect and within WALKING DISTANCE to everything. Even the finish line, which will be great and so convenient for me with the kids. Yes!!
So, we have lucked out people. I can't believe it. Someone was helping me out today, I'm telling you!! Anyway, I just had to write this before we leave on Friday. I'm taking my laptop so I can write when I'm there and post photos.
Just one last quick thing: We saw that Dick and Rick Hoyt will be running the Boston Marathon again this year. I have a video of them posted on the beginning of this site. Just go to older posts at the bottom to look it up. We are so excited about this because they are such an inspiration to us and I am sure millions of other people. We hope to catch a glimpse of them and possibly a photo. Lance Armstrong is also running the race, so who knows. Did you know that Lance Armstrong won Kids Ironman when he was only 13 years old and that he went pro at age 16? Amazing!! Anyway, we'll see you in BOSTON!!
